Eligibility Criteria

You may qualify for the HQV if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are a non-EU national
  • You hold a valid job offer from a Spanish company or a multinational with operations in Spain
  • You have a university degree, master’s, or PhD, or can demonstrate at least three years of professional experience in your field
  • Your salary meets the minimum requirement of:
      • €40,077 per year for qualified professionals
      • €54,142 per year for executives and managers
  • You have a clear criminal record and health insurance coverage

The hiring company must also meet specific criteria, such as being a large enterprise (250+ employees) or belonging to a strategic sector like technology, renewable energy, research, or healthcare.

Key Benefits

The Highly Qualified Visa offers numerous advantages, including:

  • Work and residence authorisation for one year, renewable under the same conditions
  • Family reunification rights allow close relatives to join the applicant in Spain
  • Freedom of movement within the Schengen Area
  • Fast-track processing through the UGE-CE (Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit)
  • Access to potential training and career advancement opportunities in Spain

Application Process

Applicants can submit their HQV application:

  • From within Spain, if they already hold legal status (e.g., a Schengen visa)
  • Through the Spanish Consulate in their country of residence

Required documentation includes:

  • A letter from the employer detailing the job title, salary, and contribution group to the Spanish Social Security
  • Proof of academic or professional qualifications
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Marriage and/or birth certificates, if applying with dependants
